Taylormade Communication
Communication
has been the buzz word in the training industry for
many years. It has been the scapegoat in numerous
failures and the cause of even more, yet there
seems to be very little agreement as to what is
effective communication. Many different reasons may
be voiced around this topic, but the reality is
that the same set of communication rules does not
apply to everybody in the same way. There will be
as many effective communication blueprints as there
are situations, teams and unique individuals.
Defining effective communication, relevant to a
specific situation, team and team development
stage, would be far closer to a realistic outlook.
In this program we will focus in these specifics
and apply the baser knowledge of effective
communications to your team and unique situation.
Allowing your team to leave,
COMMUNICATING!
REMIT:
Provide
a full day teambuilding and training event for a
group of people.
All activities to be fun and challenging,
incorporating all team members.
All learning and facilitation to be done in an
interactive and fun style, keeping all team members
involved and allowing for continuous personal
growth.
All activities an d sessions are to focus on the
key learning outcomes.
KEY
LEARNING OUTCOMES:
Define
and investigate communication styles at
interpersonal level.
Define and investigate communication basics at
interdepartmental and organizational level.
Assess current communication styles, discuss
improvement and design effective structure.
Facilitate the application of effective
communication basics.
EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING PROCESS:
The
process used during the activities is based on the
Adventure based experiential learning model. This
model will allow teams to acquire skills on both a
theoretical, as well as a practical level and
facilitate the process of applying these skills in
a controlled environment. Activities are followed
by interactive discussion session at the activity,
where the relevance of the activity as well as the
practical implications are discussed and made
relevant for the work environment. A process of
continues learning is followed, where each activity
not only assist in the learning of new skills, but
also re-emphasizes the previously acquired skills.
Warm
Ups:
A
Ka Zo
Guaranteed to get you roaring with laughter. This
ice breaker puts everybody on the spot and allows
you to let the hair down a bit.
Human Knot
This is where we get rid of the whole idea of
personal space. The team get themselves into a
human knot, without them even realizing it and then
gets the nearly impossible task of untangling that
knot. Struggling with a tangle has never been this
much fun before.
Intervention:
Helium Pole
The ultimate activity in group cohesion. Groups are
to put a thin pole down on the ground without ever
letting go of it, sounds easy doesn’t it? No teams
we know of have ever managed this on the first
attempt. (Reliability and trust, communication,
blame shifting)
The
Communications Dilemma
This
insightful activity allows teams to grasp integral
truths about their own communications style and the
effectiveness around these styles. The team will be
required to clarify a set of instructions that came
through in segments, by analyzing these segments
and complete the full set of instructions.
Wim’s Bridge
Once again an invention that originated in the
camel trophy. Teams are to complete a course by
navigating their way over a suspended bridge. Very
good activity to get to know fellow team members as
well as getting used to structured planning, rather
than just structured execution (structured
planning, value of trust, personal sacrifice)
Woozy
Wires
Trust at its best. Pairs in the team must rely on
one another to complete some easy obstacles, which
is impossible to complete on your own. (Trust,
motivation and personal perception)
Theater Sports
A
brand new for teambuilding in South Africa. This
fun innovative experience will take every last drop
of initiative, where no other drop of initiative
has gone before.
Swamp
Team
must complete an obstacle type course that seems
quite challenging and sometimes just plain
impossible; however sticking to some basic team
principles makes it very simple. Motivation and
support (giving as well as receiving) gets
addressed in this activity. (Planning, motivation,
support, commitment)
